Capitanes, entrenadores, seleccionadores e incluso directores iban y venían después de que Pakistán no lograra llegar a las semifinales de la Copa Mundial ODI el año pasado.

Mohammad Rizwan, one of the Pakistan cricket team’s stars, has agreed with Mohsin Naqvi’s comment about doing a ‘major surgery’ on the team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief had said so after Babar Azam and co. had lost to arch-rivals India in New York and had been virtually knocked out of the T20 World Cup.

Rizwan owns up to T20 World Cup failure

Returning home after crashing out of the Group Stage, the wicketkeeper talked with the media in Peshawar. He said, “The criticism the team is facing is justified, and we deserve this since we didn’t perform in accordance with expectations. Players who can’t face criticism won’t be able to succeed.”

“We are disappointed with our performance in the T20 World Cup. There are multiple reasons behind our losses. When a team loses, one can’t say that bowling and batting is doing well,” he added.

Selection up to PCB Chief’s whims

Mohammad Rizwan, himself, had an underwhelming outing. The opener scored just 110 runs at a strike rate of 90.9 and was blamed for Pakistan’s loss to India after getting out recklessly to Jasprit Bumrah. The keeper hinted that players will drop following their display in America, and who stays on the Pakistan team is up to the PCB Chief.

Operations are a normal thing. When a person is ill, an operation is necessary. The PCB Chairman is a hard-working person. The decision about who will remain in the team and who will not is the chairman’s right,” Rizwan concluded.
