Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali launched a scathing attack on Shaheen Afridi and co. for belittling ex-bowling coach Morne Morkel. The ex-South African pacer tasted success in his very first assignment as India’s bowling coach in IND vs BAN 1st Test. The Indian bowling department, led by Jasprit Bumrah, left Bangladesh rattled as they helped the side pick up a comprehensive 280-run win.

Basit Ali slams Pakistan for underestimating Morne Morkel

In a video on his YouTube channel, Ali took a jibe at the Pakistan cricket team for assuming that they were bigger than cricket and for putting down Morkel. He highlighted the difference in mindset, thinking and class as he explained how India beat the same Bangladesh side that handed Pakistan a historic 2-0 series defeat.

The Pakistani bowlers consider themselves to be bigger than cricket. They thought that Morkel was nothing in front of us,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.

Morne Morkel’s short-lived stint in Pakistan

Morne Morkel was a part of the Pakistan coaching setup for the ODI World Cup in 2023 where Babar Azam and co performed miserably. Consistent flop shows after the marquee event forced the South African to end his stint with the side prematurely, right before the T20 World Cup. He then went on to join India as the new bowling coach, replacing Paras Mhambrey. The IND vs BAN Test series is Morkel’s first assignment as bowling coach. The pacer will play an instrumental role in preparing the Indian bowlers for the upcominh nine Tests and a potential World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2025.
