Out of the favour of the selectors of India cricket team, Cheteshwar Pujara is silently going about doing what he’s best at – amassing runs. The Saurashtra veteran brought up his 66th first-class century in the Ranji Trophy match against Chhattisgarh. In the course of his innings, he also went past 21,000 runs in first-class cricket.

Pujara fires reminder to selectors with 66th first-class ton

Cheteshwar Pujara was at his absolute best in the game against Chhattisgarh as he led the attack against the bowlers. The veteran was involved into two 100+ run partnerships as he helped his side scale down the mammoth first innings total posed by the opposition. Having played over 270 first-class matches, Pujara is an experienced campaigner who is aiming to make his return to the Test side with consistent performances in the domestic circuit.

Latest news

Cheteshwar Pujara last played for India in June 2023 where he was a part of India’s playing XI in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Since then, he has not been a part of the Test squad and seems to fallen out of the favour of the selectors, along with Ajinkya Rahane. Pujara served as India’s number three batter in the longest format of the game for quite some time and produced great results. However, with Gautam Gambhir taking over the reins of the team, it is unlikely that Pujara will find his way back into the side any time soon.

However, it is pertinent to point out that Pujara’s experience and expertise will come of help to India when they visit Australia later this year for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
